Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain: Creating the Fuel of the Future
The Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain (HESC) is a pilot project to create a hydrogen supply chain between Victoria’s Latrobe Valley, the Port of Hastings and Kobe, Japan.
The Pilot Project is led by a consortium of experienced industry partners from Japan and Australia: Kawasaki Heavy Industries, J-Power, J-Power Latrobe Valley, Iwatani, Marubeni, AGL, Sumitomo and is supported by the Japanese, Commonwealth and Victorian Governments.
Approach
Dentsu Creative Public Relations has been retained by the project consortium to deliver community and stakeholder engagement in Latrobe Valley (coal gasification plant) and at Hastings (hydrogen gas liquefaction plant and ship loading).
Our role is to build community understanding and support for the project. In a commercial phase the HESC project would produce 225,000 tonnes of hydrogen gas and reduce global Co2 emissions by 1.8 million tonnes per year.
Our approach is based around deep community engagement and two way conversations.
We conduct face to face meetings with community groups, conduct technically focused webinars, support events and forums, and support the partners with major project announcements.
Our remit covers digital communication, publishing, community engagement, local and state government liaison and event management.
Outcome
The HESC pilot project will achieve the final link in the supply chain when the world’s first liquid hydrogen carrier ship, the Suiso Frontier, docks in Victoria later in 2021 to be loaded with clean hydrogen produced from Latrobe Valley coal with carbon capture and storage.
